Living Archaeology Weekend (LAW) is a free, annual, two-day public outreach event (with Saturday open to the public) held at the Gladie Visitor Center in the Red River Gorge of the Daniel Boone National Forest in eastern Kentucky. One of few public archaeology education programs of its magnitude in Kentucky, LAW offers school children and the general public a variety of educational activities in American Indian and pioneer lifeways, archaeological interpretation, and site preservation. 2018 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act and the 25th Anniversary of the Red River receiving the invaluable designation that put an end to the dam struggle that began in the 60s. This event is to celebrate this milestone for free-flowing Red River, one of our unique Kentucky treasures. The event benefits local non-profit watershed group, Friends of Red River, who works to clean up the Red River, educate the public about clean water, and create more access to the Red (restore, protect, and celebrate our waterways)!
